German Aerospace Center (DLR)

The research group User state and modelling of DLR has been working for close to a decade on the analysis, modelling and prediction of human driver behaviour, transferring methods and knowledge from psychological basic research to the human centred design of tomorrow’s driver assistance systems. The research group “Situation Detection and Data Management” is focusing on understanding and modelling traffic behavior and phenomena from both in-vehicle as well as infrastructural perspective. This includes methods for holistic situation modelling of traffic related situations based on probabilistic approaches, which was done in several national and EU-funded projects. Also, DLR has a longstanding experience in developing functionalities for highly and fully automated vehicles. This includes scene interpretation and online risk assessment, for example to ensure safe and feasible driving patterns for these use cases for usage in simulation, test tracks and public roads.
